What measures do you need to practice if you test positive or have symptoms? by Dr. Alexia Trevińo

What measures do you need to practice if you test positive or have symptoms such as cough, fever, sneezing, body aches, sore throat and/or headache? You should stay home and self-isolate. That means you should avoid going out to public places or using public transportation. You should also monitor your symptoms and be aware if you begin to experience difficulty breathing, bluish lips, chest pain or confusion, if any of these appear call 911 as soon as possible.

When at home avoid touching surfaces others may be in contact with. Try to stay in one room for the most part to avoid spreading the virus in other environments at home and use a separate bathroom if available. Use a face mask or a cloth covering your nose and mouth if you are around other people. Keep your hands clean at all times either by washing them with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or by using an alcohol-based sanitizer that has at least 60% of alcohol.

Stay hydrated, get enough sleep and eat nutritious food including fruits such as berries, citrus fruits, pineapple and vegetables like kale, broccoli and brussel sprouts all of which are high in vitamin c.

Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or the inner part of your elbow when coughing and sneezing. Avoid sharing personal items such as dishes, drinking glasses, towels and bed sheets. Clean and disinfect surfaces that are often touched such as doorknobs, table tops and counters.

By practicing these measures you are protecting your loved ones! Protect yourself and protect those around you!
