WHO ARE CONSIDERED HIGH RISK FOR COVID-19? by Dr. Alexia Trevińo

Although everyone should practice hygiene and protective measures to avoid getting infected with COVID-19, there is a group of people considered high risk that are more vulnerable to developing severe forms of the infection. * Adults who are 65 year or older. * Chronic lung disease including moderate to severe asthma. * Chronic heart disease. * Severe obesity. * Diabetes * Chronic kidney disease undergoing dialysis. * Liver disease. * Weakened immune system including those undergoing cancer treatment, people who smoke, those with bone marrow or organ transplantation, poorly controlled HIV or AIDS and prolonged use of corticosteroids and other medications that affect the immune system. Anyone who belongs to this group should avoid being in public places and avoid close physical contact with other people since they are more vulnerable to developing severe complications of the illness.
